White tents within Alliance Francaise de Delhi are home to an interactive exhibition that informs visitors about the work of Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). It is part of “Who cares?”, a campaign of the international medical humanitarian organisation which delivers emergency aid to people around the world who are affected by wars, disasters and epidemics. The event was inaugurated by Gangs of Wasseypur filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and veteran actor Farooq Sheikh on Tuesday.

The photographs on display within the tents tell stories of the mental health issues in Jammu and Kashmir, the recurrence of kala azar (black fever) and acute malnutrition in Bihar, the HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis cases in Manipur and Mumbai and the 4-lakh people displaced for months because of the Assam violence.

“I was not aware of kala azar. If left untreated, it is fatal in most cases,” said Kashyap. On being asked if cinema has the duty to highlight such causes that inflict a nation, Kashyap said, “Cinema should take the responsibility to tell such stories. We need such initiatives.”

Director, said, “Through this campaign, we seek to engage the public with the lives of those who have no, or very limited access, to healthcare.” The MSF in India is currently working in Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur, Chattisgarh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Nagaland.
