Envisioning the Future of Humanitarianism 
Humanitarian action and global health governance have long rested on a shared, if unevenly applied, consensus: that civilians deserve protection, that healthcare should remain accessible in crisis, and that international cooperation is both possible and necessary. That consensus is now being renegotiated. Armed conflict, geopolitical realignment, climate emergencies, pressures on civic space, and strained trust in multilateral institutions are reshaping the humanitarian landscape; while COVID-19 demonstrated both the risks of concentrated supply chains and the remarkable speed at which the world can innovate and mobilize when it chooses to.  This moment of transition is, above all, an opportunity: a chance to ask what a humanitarian architecture fit for a multi-polar world should look like, and to build it deliberately rather than inherit it by default. As an independent medical humanitarian organization, MSF has both a stake and a contribution to make: how can humanitarian principles remain relevant, consistent, and operational — and even gain renewed strength — as the political landscape around us evolves?  Building on previous editions of the Summit, this framework sharpens the focus on the forces reshaping humanitarianism — power, legitimacy, sovereignty, representation, care work, and equitable access — treating them not as purely operational or technical questions but as opportunities for renewal. The aim is constructive and forward-looking: to understand the transition underway, the challenges that are being posed, and to identify the forms of cooperation, solidarity, and principled action that will define what comes next.
