About MSF

Doctors without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid in more than 70 countries around the world to people affected by wars, epidemics and disasters, and to people who are unable to access much-needed medical care.

We believe that everyone should have access to healthcare, and we help people irrespective of their race, religion, gender or political affiliations. We do not take sides in any conflict, but go where the needs are greatest.

MSF has worked in India since 1999, providing free-of-charge essential healthcare to people in remote areas, and specialist care for people affected by HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, Drug resistant tuberculosis, kala azar and malnutrition. We also respond to natural disasters and other emergencies, provide mental healthcare, and lobby for the development of more effective and cheaper medicines to improve access to treatment for people everywhere.

MSF currently runs projects in the states of Bihar, Manipur, Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, Chhattisgarh and Telangana.

In 1996, MSF received the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development, and in 1999 MSF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
