MSF India Newsletter
SEPTEMBER 2018

After treating over 12,000 kala azar patients in Bihar since 2007, MSF started a kala azar-HIV co-infection project in the state in 2015. Our teams have treated over 700
co-infected patients until now. Co-infected patients battle not just the disease but also the social stigma attached to it. MSF health promoter Chhavi Kumar shines a light on the successes and challenges in treating people living with kala azar-HIV co-infection
in Bihar.

In the wake of the worst floods in nearly a century in Kerala, MSF has deployed two more medical teams in Thiruvalla block, Pathanamthitta district, which carried out medical consultations for the vulnerable people. Our team also did WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) and mental health assessments in severely affected parts of Malappuram, Pathanamthitta and Ernakulam districts.
